As a dermatologist in the Catharina Hospital, Gertruud has a special interest in skin oncology and surgery. In addition, she has a subspecialty in focus Paediatric Dermatology and phlebology. Besides patient care, she is involved in all national guidelines on skin cancer. In 1996 she received ‘the European Photodermatology Award’ for her research. In 2008 she received the Leo Award. This is the annual award of the Dutch Society of Dermatology and Venereology (via clips) for extraordinary commitment to cancer care in the Netherlands. In 1998 she graduated. Then she received a grant for research into skin cancer. She is past president of the European Society for Surgery micrographic and advisor of the Fund Skin. She is married and has four children.
